15 killed in Hoshangabad accident

A bus carrying marriage party overturned in Sohagpur area of Hoshangabad on Tuesday morning. Fifteen people, including one child and seven women, died on the spot while 37 people were injured, some of them seriously. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced financial assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh to next of kin of every deceased.
Sohagpur TI Priyadarshan Sidhart told to ‘The Hitavada’ that Verma family hailing from Indore was going to Chandameta in Chhindwara district to attend the marriage reception of a girl. Their bus overturned at turn of culvert in Langa Bamhori. “Fifteen people died on spot,” said TI Priyadarshan Sidhart.
Sohagpur police station informed that deceased were identified as Anuradha (40), Vishnu (51), Ratan Garwal (55), Gayatri Verma (70), Jyoti (40), Gullo (60), Mahesh (46), Kaushalya (45), Radha (55), Hari Om (52), Om Prakash (53), Ashok Kumar, Devi (54), Manju Verma (45) and a ten-year-old child.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed deep concern on the bus accident happened between  Babai and Hoshangabad. He announced financial help of Rs 1.50 lakh to next of kin of every deceased. Apart from this, financial help of Rs 25,000 would be given to seriously injured.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had prayed for the peace of soul of deceased and
prayed to provide strength to the family of victims.
While talking to ‘The Hitavada’ Additional Superintendent of Police Shahsank Garg said that Santosh Verma’s daughter married on December 12. Santosh Verma and others were going to Chandameta to attend the reception party of Verma’s daughter. It is learnt that Santosh also succumbed to serious injuries but his name had not figured in deceased list of police till evening.
Police sources said that local people were prompt enough to provide the helping hand in rescue operation, otherwise things could have been more harrowing for the rescue team.
“Bus driver could not control the bus at the zigzag turn and this led to the mishap. In his statement, driver had said that a car had come before the bus and to avoid it, bus skidded off the road and met with accident,” said police. Casualty figure may increase as condition of some of the victims is serious.
