After inauguration of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, air-conditioned buses will be running on BRTS routes in Naya Raipur only. An officer of Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA) told The Hitavada that AC buses would be run on trial basis on the new BRTS road routes in Naya Raipur areas only.

The buses will pass through nine bus shelters namely Uparwara, Sector-29, Sector-27, South Block, North Block, Ekatma Path, CBD, Mahanadi Bhavan and Indravati Bhavan. Chief Project Manager of PIU SUTP Naya Raipur L K Panigrahi said that these buses are automatic transmission vehicles that would be run on the basis of radio frequency identification (RFID)

To avoid any mishap, it needs to train all drivers to ensure safe journey of passengers. All drivers will be trained for one month and after successful trial, the buses will be run upto Raipur Railway Station. Passengers will be picked and dropped at 9 bus shelters.

Public information systems are being installed at the bus shelters where passengers would be informed about arrival and departure of buses. To ride on bus, bus-height is 900 mm and shelter height is also 900 mm. This is GPS based BRTS. Employees are being trained about the functioning of intelligent transport system (ITS) where all information regarding operation and location of buses would be available.

The BRTS is a high-quality bus based transit system that delivers fast, comfortable, and cost effective urban mobility through the provision of segregated right of way infrastructure, rapid and frequent operations and excellence in marketing and customer service. The NRDA has fixed fare minimum as Rs 5 and maximum as Rs 35. One bus will be operated in every 20 minutes. It is a big challenge for NRDA officials to make successful operation of buses on BRTS road routes in Raipur.
