Vehicle-lifters’ gang busted, 8 held; stolen bikes, teakwood seized

In a major breakthrough, eight members of a vehicle-lifters’ gang were nabbed and 65 two-wheelers and 25 logs of teakwood were recovered by Ashta police; gang members used to steal vehicles for carrying stolen teakwood.
According to the Ashta police, gang members involved in stealing motorbikes and teakwood were nabbed and valuables worth Rs 25 lakh were recovered from their possession.
Superintendent of Police (Sehore) Manish Kapuria said that gang members were nabbed after reports of stealing of teakwood was received in the past and in the process vehicle-lifters were also targeted as the number of stolen vehicle increased in the past few months.
Initially, police nabbed Naushad Khan, Tajjudin Mewati, Asif Mewati, Manish Khaati who confessed that Sandeep Khaati, Meharbaan alias Shailu, Rajpal Khaati and Manish Khaati were involved with them. Later, police team arrest remaining four accomplices. Nabbed accused include vehicle lifters and those who used to dispose the vehicles and teakwood. They used to carry stolen teak on stolen motorbikes and would escape with wood leaving the vehicle when found by police and forest guards. It is the biggest recovery in the State till date. The vehicles were recovered from more than a dozen places. The nabbed gang member have confessed stealing around 300 two wheelers in Rajgarh, Mandsaur,Ujjain, Ratlam, Sehore, Bhopal, Indore and nearby areas were targeted by the gang.
The recovery is around worth Rs 25 lakh and more recoveries would be done and accomplices involved in thefts and disposing the vehicles would be nabbed. The gang members were active in six districts where the density of the two-wheelers were good and after stealing the vehicles they were sold at throw away price after using them for transporting teakwood.
