Citizens nab bag-lifter, thrash him before handing over to cops

A BAG-lifter was given a sound thrashing by public for trying to steal a purse from a young woman in Rana Pratap Nagar area on Thursday.
The incident happened near Datta Mandir at Bandu Soni Layout when Prateeksha Shyam Kale (24), a resident of 44, Vikas Nagar, behind Sai Mandir, was returning home with her friend Tejaswini around 7.45 pm.

Sumedh Gajanan Ramteke (25), a resident of Plot No. 131, Kabir Nagar, came from behind with one of his accomplices on a two-wheeler and snatched Prateeksha’s purse containing Rs 600 cash and ATM card. After Prateeksha raised an alarm, a group of bystanders started chasing the bag-lifters. The two-wheeler-borne robbers fell down from their vehicle. People caught Sumedh Ramteke. His accomplice managed to escape. People bashed up Sumedh ruthlessly before handing him over to the police. Rana Pratap Nagar Police arrested arrested Sumedh Ramteke on charges under Sections 392 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and launched a hunt for his accomplice.
