Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) is a constitutional law-abiding institution and it does not run on whims of the Mayor and his officers,RMC Speaker Prafull Vishwakarma lashed out at Mayor for barring a Mayor-in-Council (MiC) member Goverdhan Sharma from MiC meeting.
On December 29, Mayor Pramod Dubey convened a meeting of MiC. While there are 14 Councillors in RMC, one councillor Goverdhan Sharma, in-charge of Education, Sports and Youth Welfare Department, was suspiciously barred from the meeting for reasons best known to Mayor himself.
Even the authorised notice for MiC meeting had only contained names of 13 MiC, which means that Sharma was even intimated about the meeting.
BJP Prafull Vishwakarma has termed this as unlawful and complete authoritativeness by Mayor Pramod Dubey and his officers. This is a blatant insult of a respected public representative and the voters.
MiC must work under the Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation Act 1956 and omitting a Councillor from meeting is direct violation of his legal right defined under Section 25 A (1) of aforementioned Act.
Hence, the MiC meeting and the decisions taken in there should be declared Zero and the official responsible for omitting name of Councillor shall be punished aptly, Vishwakarma added.
