Actress Vaani Kapoor, who returns to the silver screen after a gap of three years, says filmmaker Aditya Chopra had asked her to wait for the right film.
Vaani made her acting debut in Aditya Chopra produced film Shuddh Desi Romance opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. Now in her second film Befikre she has been directed by Aditya himself and the actress says she couldn’t have asked for more.
“I was waiting for something really good and exciting to come my way. The gap is because of Adi Chopra. He told me to wait and do a film that will be apt and justify me as an actor. Adi took two years for this film (Befikre) but I am glad to have waited,” Vaani told.
Vaani is paired opposite Ranveer Singh in the romance drama and she reveals she was bullied a lot by her co-star.
“He (Ranveer) bullies me a lot. He was mean to me,” she said.
While Ranveer on his part says, “After ages I was ragging someone and I had great fun.”
The actress, who has teamed up with the Bajirao Mastani star for the first time, says she has had a great time working with him.
“He makes you feel very comfortable. The fact that he is a good soul and one can see that through his films.”
“He really does bring life to wherever he is. Be it any place... Be it on or off camera his energy is really infectious. He never really behaved like a star. He is a very supporting co-actor.”
The 28-year-old actor, says she knew Ranveer before shooting for filmmaker Aditya Chopra’s directorial.
“I’ve known him before we started shooting for the movie. So we already did have an equation and we really did have a very chilled out vibe. We both were very comfortable being in each others company,” she said.
Vaani says that this has “made a huge difference because then there was no ice-breaking process that was needed.”
Vaani Kapoor was also full of praise director Aditya Chopra saying that he is a humble man. Asked how was it working with Chopra, Vaani said, “He is such a humble man. You can never feel intimidated by him because he makes sure that he is approachable and friendly.”
“Before he announced (about Befikre), he broke the news I am doing this movie...He was taking my workshops. I didn’t know for what movie and who is directing it... He made me feel very comfortable when we were doing workshops also,” she said. The 28-year-old actress says by the time she reached the film’s set, she “did become a lot comfortable”.
Talking about her Befikre journey, Vaani said, “It was amazing. I felt like it was the best thing that had happened to me...Not only because it is an Aditya Chopra movie or it has Ranveer Singh or I had such a fabulous team, but also for the character I got to play.”
The Shuddh Desi Romance actress says she has something to treasure for life.
Befikre will hit the screens on December 9, 2016 - three years after her debut film released. Vaani said “the wait was frustrating”.
“I wish this (Befikre) had happened earlier. I was living alone, with no family and friends. When you feel low and down, you don’t know whom to talk to and go out with. I didn’t have anyone I could depend on that way,” she said.
Talking about her personal life, she said that she doesn’t believe in “casual dating” and would rather be in a “proper relationship”.
“In Mumbai, I don’t know many people. I only know colleagues. And I’m wary of dating actors. Loyalty is very important to me,” the 28-year-old said.
When it comes to her career, she wants it all. “I want to be part of the best movies that are being made, and to work with the best directors. Otherwise, I will just pack up and leave. I am open to starting all over again. Right now my ambition is to have a home of my own in Mumbai, to do things for my family, to give back. They have done a lot for me. I don’t want to end up being dependent on anyone,” she said.
