Rs 120 crore sanctioned to develop Madan Mahal station as terminus, while Howbag as coaching complex THANKS to phenomenal efforts initiated by MP Rakesh Singh that during last minutes before Railway Budget was tabled under Capital Investment Programme 2016-17, a sum of Rs 120 crore has been allocated to develop Madan Mahal station as terminus station and abandoned Howbag station as coaching complex.

Sanction to develop Madan Mahal as terminus station is contrary to assertions made over the years that technically owing to topographical reasons at no stage Madan Mahal can be developed as terminus station.

About the mammoth success it is informed that over the years due to traffic pressure at Jabalpur station, it was strongly felt to make elaborate extension of Jabalpur. As the main station is situated remote there was an urgent need to have one terminus station for zonal headquarter.

MP Rakesh Singh since past 7 years has been consistently taking the matter with the WCR administration and with railway officials. During initial stages of demand to have one terminus for Jabalpur it came to fore that owing to technical reason Madan Mahal station cannot be considered fit to be developed as terminus station.

In course of time operation of narrow gauge trains that were terminated leaving Howbag station’s vast area abandoned. Befitting demand was made by the sitting MP to develop Howbag or Madan Mahal station as terminus. In series of discussions that took place between MP Rakesh Singh and the top brass of WCR it was agreed upon that Madan Mahal station can be developed as terminus.

As WCR GM Ramesh Chandra stated that on principle WCR agrees to the proposal provided by the Railway Board approves the proposal.

Despite the fact that potential to explore Madan Mahal station as terminus was accepted, proposal however got delayed to reach the Railway Board. As only a week’s time was left for presentation of Railway Budget.

Feasibility to include in the Railway Budget seemed a bit difficult. However, MP Singh continuing with his move held talks with Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and made him comprehend to develop terminus at Jabalpur is essential to enhance passenger facilities and proposal to develop terminus must be included in the budget.

Accordingly it was decided in the meeting of Planning Department of the Railway Board that efforts will be made to include the proposal in the Railway Budget.

During last minutes of budget preparation in last section of the Railway Budget sanction of Rs 120 crore was included under capital development programme.

About the provisions made it is informed that Madan Mahal station will be developed as terminus, while Howbag will be developed as coaching complex. MP Rakesh Singh has termed inclusion of sanction of Rs 120 crore as a big achievement for Jabalpur and has congratulated people of Jabalpur.
