All set for grand Ram Navami Shobhayatra

Stage is all set to celebrate Shri Ram Navami with religious fervour on Friday. The city will witness four Shriram Janmotsav Shobhayatras in different areas. Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir will take out 50th historical shobhayatra while 300 years old historical shobhayatra of Bhonsala dynasty will start from senior Bhonsala palace. 43rd Shobhayatra will be held in West Nagpur while 14th Shobhayatra will be held from Bellyshop ancient Shiv Mandir.

300 years old Ancient Shobhayatra:

The shobhayatra was started in 1725 by Shrimant Raje Raghuji Bhonsale (first). When Reghuji Maharaj came to city, he had a dream of Shri Ram Chandra. Lord Ram told him to take out idols present in Shur river. Lord Ram also told Bhonsala king to install the idols in Gadh Mandir of Ramtek to get stability to his dynasty. Raghuji Raje Bhonsale installed the idols in Ramtek and started ruling the city. Prabhu Ramchandra is considered as ‘Kuldaivat’ of Bhnosala king and Navratra festival was started from Gudipadwa to Ram Navami by Bhonsala. From that period tradition of shobhayatra was started.

Route: The palanquin procession will start from senior Bhonsala Palace at 4 pm and will pass through Kotwali Square, Badkas Chowk, Chitar Oli, Gandhiputala and conclude at Bhonsala Palace.

The members of Sarang Cultural Foundation will accord a grand welcome to procession at Gandhi Putala, Central Avenue. Foundation President Sarang Dhok and Executive members will perform pujan. Members of Bhonsala family including Shrimant Raje Raghujirao Bhonsale (fifth), Shrimant Raje Mudhoji Bhonsale (third) and Shrimant Jaisingh Raje Bhonsale will be felicitated.


A float of ‘The Hitavada’ depicting ‘Jatayu Uddhar’ episode from epic Ramayana will be one of the major attractions of the shobhayatra to be taken out on Friday. 

Golden Jubilee Poddareshwar Shriram Janmotsav Shobhayatra:

The 50th Shriram Janmotsav Shobhayatra will start on Friday at 4 pm. The main decorated chariot ‘Divya Rath’ is ready and idols of Prabhu Shriramchandra, Mata Janki, Laxman and Shri Hanuman will be placed on the chariot. Mayor Pravin Datke will perform pujan and garland the idols and then devotees will pull the chariot with the help of a rope like Jagannath Rath Yatra.

Route: The shobhayatra will start from Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir and pass through Kakde Chowk, Hansapuri, Naalsahab Chowk, Ganjakhet Chowk, Bhandara Road, Shahid Chowk, Chitar Oli Square, Pandit Bachchraj Chowk, Kelibagh Road, Mahal Square, Gandhi Gate Mahal, Tilak Putala, Subhash Road, Agyaram Devi Square, Geeta Mandir, Khandoba Mandir, Cotton Market Square, Malaviya Road, Narayansingh Uikey Square, Janaki Talkies, Dr Munje Chowk, Jhanshi Rani Square, Sitabuldi Main Road, Manas Chowk, Netaji Subhash Statue, Station Road, Santra Market and will conclude at Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir.

Expected Timing:

Start from Poddareshwar Ram Mandir at 4 pm, Itwari Shahid Chowk at 6 pm, Mahal at 7 pm, Cotton Market at 9 pm and Sitabuldi at 10 pm.

Security Arrangements: Tight security arrangements have been made by city police for the 50th Shriram Janmotsav Shobhayatra. The entry of vehicles from 11 am to 12.30 pm and from 3 pm to 4.30 pm has been prohibited near by areas of Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir.

During the shobhayatra entire traffic has been diverted from all the areas through which the procession will pass.

More Buses: Arrangement of extra buses for devotees has been made by Col Shirish Mujumdar General Manager of City Bus Services for the devotees attending Shobhayatra. 1) Bus will start from Ayachit Mandir at 8 pm for Wardhaman Nagar Pardi and Nandanvan Kharbi. 2) Bus will start from Ganeshpath Police Station at 9.15 pm for Wardhaman Nagar Pardi and Nandanvan Kharbi. 3) Bus will start from Mokshadham Chowk at 9.30 pm for Medical, Raghuji Nagar, Hudkeshwar, Pipla Fata; Medical Reshimbagh Chowk, Sakkardara, Dighori; Medical Krida Chowk, Manewada and Besa. 4) Bus will start from Sitabuldi Panchsheel Talkies Square at 10.15 pm for Somalwada and SRPF. 5) Bus will start from Maharajbagh at 10.45 pm for Sadar, Mahadula, Khaperkheda.

43rd Shobhayatra in West Nagpur: Paschim Nagpur Nagrik Sangh (PNNS), Shriram Mandir, Ram Nagar has organised 43rd Shobhayatra of Prabhu Ramchandra in West Nagpur on Friday.

Palanquin pujan will be held at 5 pm at the hands of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister of Road Transport Nitin Gadkari, Ganpur District Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh and Mayor Pravin Datke. MP Ajay Sancheti, former MP Banwarilal Purohit, former MP Vilas Muttemwar, MLC Anil Sole, Kirtikumar Bhangadiya, MLC Girish Vyas, businessman Arun Lakhani, Abhijeet Mujumdar, Sunil Raisoni, Madhukar Somalwar and Adv Anand Parchure will perform pujan.

Route: Shobhayatra will start from Shri Ram Mandir Ram Nagar and will pass through Bajiprabhu Square, Laxmi Bhuvan square, Coffee House Chowk, Kalele’s house, Mama Road, Zenda Chowk, Laxminarayan Mandir Chowk, Laxmi Bhuvan Square, Batukbhai Chowk, Shankar Nagar Square, Bajaj Nagar Square, Laxmi Nagar Square, Abhyankar Nagar Square, VNIT Gate Chowk, LAD College Square, late Pushpalata Tidke Square, Corporation School, Hill Road, Bajiprabhu Square and conclude at Shriram Mandir.

14th Shobhayatra from North Nagpur:

Shobhayatra will start from Ancient Shiv Mandir Bellyshop-Motibagh Railway Colony at 4 pm. The shobhayatra will be dedicated to people suffering from drought and water crisis. The theme of the procession will be ‘save water, save earth’.

North Nagpur MLA Dr Milind Mane will be the chief guest. former Minister Dr Nitin Raut, Divisional Railway Manager of South East Central Railway Alok Kansal will perform pujan. Noted homoeopath Dr Vilas Dangre, Senior Divisional Engineer of SECR Y H Rathod, Pediatrician Dr Uday Bodhankar, SECR Bilaspur officer Pradeepkumar, corporator Sandeep Sahare, Manisha Ghodeswar, President of Gurunanak College of Engineering Navneetsingh Tuli, Working President of Deepak Agency and Zero Mile Foundation Deepak Lalwani, Jugalkishore Shahu, Shivmandir Trust President Virendra Jha and Secretary Dr Pravin Dabli will also grace the occasion.
