2.81 cr saplings planted in a day; Forest Deptt makes it to Limca Book of Records

The State Forest Department added another feather in its cap with Limca Book of Records registering the massive tree plantation of 2.81 crore on a single day on July 1 all over Maharashtra.
Sudhir Mungantiwar, Forest Minister, who took initiative in planting a record number of saplings on one day by people’s participation, expressed happiness over getting Limca Book of Records certificate. He was also felicitated on behalf of Junior Chamber of International Marine Lines (JC) by presenting Man of The Year award at the hands of Padmavibhushan Dr B K Goyal. Mungantiwar said that he was delighted to get coveted certificate and award on the same day.
Addressing the gathering, Mungantiwar said that he was accpeting the honour on behalf of 6.52 lakh citizens, who extended active cooperation in the ambitious tree plantation programme. Human beings get oxygen only from trees and hence it is the duty of everybody to raise plantations. The Government has pledged to plant 50 crore trees during the next three years.
He sought cooperation from the Jaycees to participate actively in planting 3 crore saplings on July 1 next year.
It may be mentioned here that Mungantiwar had made efforts to mobilise various Government departments, Art of Living, educational institutions, industry, municipal councils, gram panchayats and general public for this massive tree plantation programme. He also met union ministers to seek their cooperation to the programme. In fact, the target was set for 2 crore trees but the department received ecnouraging response and it planted over 2.81 crore saplings on that day. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, had also appreciated the pain-staking efforts put in by Mungantiwar for making the event a grand success.
