Center approves Rs 2,390 cr for expansion of roads in C’garh

Central Government has approved Rs 2,390 crore for the expansion of roads in eight districts of Chhattisgarh that are affected with Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
Of the eight districts, seven districts are in Bastar revenue division while another district included is Rajnandgaon. Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh has extended his gratitude for the same to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister for Roads Transport and Highways. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had urged the Prime Minister and both the Union Ministers to approve the proposals forwarded by state government in this direction. PWD Minister Rajesh Munat has directed the officials for fast execution of these roads.
According to PWD Secretary Subodh Kumar Singh, as per the sanction approved by the Centre, Rs 2109 has been sanctioned for 43 roads covering a distance of 796 Kms apart from Rs 281 crore for 16 bridges and culverts covering a total distance of 96 kms. As per the decision taken during the Collectors/SP conference held recently, all these roads will be constructed by PWD. Under the directive issued by central government all these works will be executed on the mode of PMGSY.
Accordingly, construction units will be constituted in these districts as per PMGSY norms and these two lane all weather roads will be constructed.
According to Secretary Singh, eight roads covering a distance of 207.60 Kms will be built in Kanker at a cost of Rs 519 crore while Rs 378 crore has been sanctioned for 8 roads covering 144.3 Kms in Kondagaon district.
Similarly, Rs 360 crore has been sanctioned for 7 roads covering 79.4 Kms in Dantewada district and Rs 240 crore has been sanctioned for five roads covering 95.90 Kms in Bijapur district. In Bastar district Rs 223 crore has been sanctioned for four roads covering 86 Kms and Rs 54 crore has been sanctioned for three roads covering 16.4 Kms in Narainpur district. An amount of Rs 67.50 crore has been sanctioned for two roads covering 27 Kms in Sukma district.
Similarly, Rs 348 crore has been sanctioned for six roads covering 139.2 Kms in Rajnandgaon district. Also an amount of Rs 281 crore has been sanctioned for constructing bridges and culverts in Bastar district.
