Nephew held for murder of elderly woman

Govindpura police, on Monday, claimed to have solved murder case of an elderly woman, who was found dead at her residence in Anna Nagar slum area on December 28. The victim was killed by her nephew as the latter wanted to take possession of slum of deceased woman.
SHO, Govindpura Dinesh Chauhan said that deceased Purain (70), wife of Videshi Yadav, was a resident of Anna Nagar slum area.She was living here alone following death of her husband, who passed away six months ago. Since the death of her husband, Purain Bai’s nephew Harishchandra along with his wife and children started living here to look after deceased woman.


On December 28, woman was found dead in her house under mysterious circumstances. The short post-mortem report of deceased woman revealed that she was strangulated to death and the injury marks on her neck indicated the same. Later, based on autopsy report of deceased woman, Govindpura police registered a case of murder against unidentified person and started further probe in the murder case.


During further investigation by police, neighbours of deceased woman, in their statements, told police that, frequent disputes used to take place between Purain Bai and her nephew Harish. These clues proved vital for police and Harish was taken into police custody for quizzing. The accused earlier tried to misguide police, but later confessed to his crime.


Harish told police that following the death of her husband, slum was on the name of Purain Bai and he wanted to take possession of her slum so that his name would be added in her ration card. Purain was not ready for it. Therefore, frequent disputes used to take place between them over the same issue. On the night of December 28, when he tried to convince his aunt, there was an altercation between them and irked accused strangulated her to death.
