Thanks to the lackadaisical working of Government departments, high tech boats amounting to lakhs of rupees have been abandoned at the banks of river Narmada at Bargi water reservoir. The boats, which were purchased for monitoring of the reservoir, are lying unused since long years and have turned into scrap. Condition of these high tech boats mirrors the apathetic working of Government departments, when it comes to caring of its assets and ensuring its best utilisation.

It may be mentioned that, along with Rani Avanti Bai Sagar Pariyojana Department, several other departments like Water Resources Department, Fisheries Department and Fisheries Federation are working at Bargi Dam. Surprisingly, the boats are lying abandoned adjoining to the venue of Maha Arti of river Narmada, where Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan performed worship in presence of senior public representatives and heads of several departments. But, no officer paid any attention or took information about the high-tech abandoned boats.

Senior officers of all the departments expressed their helplessness in giving any information about the abandoned boats and tried to shift responsibility to other Government departments. Most disappointing is a fact that the concerned Government department is trying to avoid taking responsibility of costly machinery amounting to lakhs of rupees, which were purchased for monitoring at Bargi Dam.

Three high-tech boats, which were reportedly imported by the Government for Bargi Dam, are lying abandoned by competent authorities without ensuring their protection. Boats have been completely damaged in absence of protection since long years at the banks of river Narmada near Bargi Dam in village Saliwara of Gram Panchayat Tuniya.

According to some villagers of Tuniya, the boats were being used by Government officers for inspection of Bargi Dam. These boats were not in use since many years and lying abandoned near the reservoir. Now the boats have been badly damaged by anti-social elements and visitors.
