Open Chess Tournament at Bal Samaaj Library from Jan 6

The 15th Ashish Sharma Memorial Open Chess Tournament will be organised by NGO Mitaan and Brahmanpara Yuva Sangh from January 6 to 12. Tournament will be held in Bal Samaaj Library.
As many as 28 entries from Basna, Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, Bhilai, Balodabazaar, Arang, and Saraipali and Raipur have already been submitted to the organizers. In a presser, Tournament Director Naveen Shukla informed that the tournament was cater the chess players of Chhattisgarh, who never had any big platform to showcase their talent. Complying to the Swiss League method, the tournament will be played in seven rounds from 6 to 9 pm. While there is no dearth of tournaments of Cricket, Hockey, Volleyball or Football in state, there is almost negligible
competition for the chess.
There are hefty cash prizes for the participants as well as top performing players. Overall winner will get a cash award of Rs 15,000 whereas 1s, 2nd and 3rd runners up will get Rs 7,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3,000. Tournament will take off in the presence of Lokesh Kawadiya as chief guest and Akash Dubey, Avinash Shukla and Subhash Sharma as special guests. Notably, out of 53 players that participated in last years tournament, 15 were national-level players.
