RASH driving by a car driver claimed the life of a four-year-old boy and injured his father seriously near Sakhare Hardware Stores at Godhni in Mankapur area on Saturday morning.
The incident created tension in the locality with hundreds of residents and passersby gathered demanding arrest of the car driver.
A resident of Zingabai Takli, Ganesh Jairam Tekade (35) was going with his son Daksh (4) and daughter Purva (6) to drop them to Ashirvad Higher Secondary School on a Hero Passion motorcycle (MH-31/ET 4486) around 10.30 am. He was riding down the street with Daksh sitting in front of him and Purva riding pillion holding her father’s waist.
Suddenly, a speeding Maruti Eeco car (MH-31/EU 9667) coming from opposite direction hit the motorcycle near Sakhare Hardware Stores killing Daksh on the spot and injuring Ganesh and Purva seriously. A huge crowd gathered at the spot. Some residents rushed Ganesh and his daughter Purva to Mayo Hospital where they are battling for their lives. Staff from Mankapur Police Station arrived at the spot on being informed and sent Daksh’s body for autopsy. Cops arrested car driver Chetan Sheshrao Chaudhary (22) on charges under Sections 279, 337, 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code. Cops seized the ‘killer’ car.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Chaudhary had lost control of his car.
Instead of applying brakes on seeing Ganesh Tekade and his two children on the bike, he accelerated his car resulting in the tragedy.
