The company is now capable of manufacturing up to 1,000 MW super critical set. It is also equipped with all facilities at its modern plants for manufacturing equipment of total 20,000 MW
The first super critical thermal power plant of 660 MW capacity of BHEL- Western region, at NTPC Mouda plant is now ready for commercial operation. It has completed the stringent statutory requirement of continuous running for 72 hours at full load (MCR) without a single tripping. The testing was completed in the wee hours of January 5, 2017. It is the first super critical boiler, turbine and generator (BTG) set of BHEL, Western Region.
BHEL, a Maharatna company of Government of India (undertaking) had secured orders for 2x660MW coal fired thermal power sets from NTPC for its Mouda plant in 2011.
The unit was synchronised and achieved full load in a record time of 35 months in March 2016 but due to various technical reasons it could not be made operational commercially. With the availability of the unit, power situation in Western Region will further improve and industries and commercial establishments of the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh will be immensely benefitted.
In keeping with the market demand, BHEL had upgraded its technology from sub-critical to super critical about a decade ago. Super critical technology is recognised worldwide for higher efficiency, lower coal consumption and lower air pollution. The company is now capable of manufacturing up to 1,000 MW super critical set.
It is also equipped with all facilities at its modern plants for manufacturing equipment of total 20,000 MW capacity per annum.
So far company has supplied about 25,000 MW capacity of boiler, turbine and generator in the domestic market. A widespread network of 17 manufacturing units, two repair units, four regional offices, eight service centres, six overseas offices support BHEL’s total service to power stations starting from design, manufacturing, erection, commissioning after sales service and spares. The Executive Director of BHEL Western Region S N Maiti thanked BHEL team of Mouda plant and their associates for achieving this extraordinary feat.
