67.36 % polling in 11 municipal councils in Nagpur, Gondia distts

Counting of votes to begin at 10 am on Monday at designated centres in respective areas
Polling for 11 municipal councils in Nagpur and Gondia district was held peacefully on Sunday. Both the districts reported an average of 67.36 per cent polling as per the tentative figures released by State Election Commission on Sunday late night. Now, all eyes are on counting of votes that will start at 10 am on Monday, followed by declaration of results.
The polling was conducted between 7.30 am and 5.30 pm. As per the tentative figures released by State Election Commission, Mohpa in Nagpur district reported the highest polling of 85.96 per cent, followed by Kalmeshwar with 75.59 per cent polling. Among 11 municipal councils going to polls, nine were in Nagpur and two in Gondia district. Of these 11, Kamptee in Nagpur district reported the lowest polling of 60.17 per cent.
As many as 92 candidates were in the fray for 11 posts of directly elected civic chiefs, and 1,190 were contesting for 244 seats of councillors. The fate of all these candidates was sealed on Sunday, and the results will be known after counting of votes on Monday. Counting of votes will start at 10 am at designated counting centres in respective municipal council areas. The administration has made all arrangements at all the places. The first result is likely to be out by 11 am and the result for civic chief’s posts will be declared after declaration of results for councillors’ posts.
The municipal councils that went to polls on Sunday included Kamptee, Umred, Katol, Kalmeshwar, Mohpa, Ramtek, Narkhed, Khapa, and Saoner in Nagpur district; besides Tirora and Gondia in Gondia district. All these municipal councils clubbed together had total 3,82,060 voters of which 1,91,791 were men, 1,90,263 were women, and six were Others.
For these voters, total 502 polling booths were set up. Of these, as many as 2,45,595 voters were in nine municipal councils in Nagpur district.
This was the fourth and last phase of municipal bodies polls in the State. After three phases of local bodies polls in the State so far, ruling BJP is leading with 1,090 seats of councillors and 64 posts of municipal council chief. Congress comes second with 894 seats and 33 posts of President, NCP third with 786 seats and 21 posts of President, and Shiv Sena fourth with 598 seats and 26 posts of President. The rest have been won by local outfits, Independents, and other political parties.
GONDIA: The municipal council polls were held peacefully on Sunday for 42 and 17 seats of councillors in Gondia and Tirora respectively and President’s posts at both places.
Gondia registered 62.72 per cent polling while Tirora reported 73.15 per cent polling.
In Gondia, 257 candidates were in the fray for 42 posts of councillors and 14 were in the fray for President’s post.
Similarly, for 17 posts of councillors in Tirora, were 72 candidates were in the fray. Eight candidates were contesting for civic chief’s post.
The administration had set up 143 polling booths in Gondia and 28 booths in Tirora.
Of a total 1,15,607 voters, 72,504 exercised their franchise. In Tirora, 15,258 electors out of total 20,859 electors exercised their franchise. The highest turnout was recorded at Booth No 26 where 86.49 per cent polling was recorded, and the lowest turnout was registered at Booth No 21 with 60.54 per cent polling.
