Staff Reporter,

Increasing cases of dengue and chikungunya in city for the last few months has become a major concern of health officers, specially the District Malaria Officer (DMOs), in city who has little force and big task.

On Monday, 38 samples of dengue suspected patients were received by the district health authorities which got tested through Eliza equipment in Government pathology labs. Of them 28 tested negative and 10 tested positive. Government and private hospitals have more patients of dengue and chikungunya. The private hospital doctors by card test find positive chikungunya and dengue, started treatment of the patients. Then these blood samples were sent to the district health authorities as per Government instructions to have confirmation of dengue and chikungunya through Eliza test.

The malaria workers and doctors in both Government and private hospitals also first get blood sample of dengue and chikungunya before starting treatment of the patients.
On the other hand, there is no dearth of chikungunya cases in city that is also on top of the state in dengue, chikungunya and swine flu cases. District health authorities got 13 samples of chikungunya suspected patients, of them 8 samples tested negative and 5 tested positive.

Both dengue and chikungunya fever are from the same Edice mosquito and it is from larvae. The doctors suppose that lack of awareness and proper publicity about these seasonal diseases this year due to which the dengue and chikungunya cases are on rising trend. According to Dr Sudhir Jesani, Chief Medical & Health Officer, 10 samples of dengue patients and 5 samples of chikungunya patients were tested positive in city, on Monday.
