Three persons, including a guard and two women, employees of a renowned watch showroom suffered fatal injuries after CO2 gas accidentally leaked in cylinder used for soda maker at Pizza Hut restaurant in New Market under TT Nagar Police Station on Monday.
The incident took place in the afternoon and shoppers, commuters and other passers-by in New Market area panicked when they heard a sound of blast at GTB Complex.

According to SHO of TT Nagar M S Chouhan, the blast occurred at around 12:30 pm when two workers of Pizza Hut were trying to fix the nozzle of gas cylinder before carrying it to another outlet located in Kolar. The cylinder is used to fill gas in the cold drinks served in the outlet.

Injured Laxman Singh, security guard with Titan showroom, reportedly asked the duo to fix the nozzle somewhere else.
However, they did not pay heed to his request and kept their work but soon guard’s apprehensions were justified and the cylinder accidentally leaked and entered the adjacent watch showroom injuring Laxman and two other girls who were inside the shop. The girls have been identified as Geeta and Shadab.

The incident holds relevance in view of the fact that the festival of Diwali is nearing and it could have led to a disaster as huge rush is usually witnessed in the New Market ahead of festive season.
The showroom thus suffered a huge loss post the incident as window glass of entry gate and other branded and expensive watches got damaged in the process and the exact amount is yet to be ascertained by the police.

After the incident, the employees of Pizza Hut and Titan showroom were involved in a scuffle but were stopped by the police personnel.
