Inter-state gang involved in illegal trade of fire arms busted

STF team has arrested three accused and seized more than 400 live cartridges, around 200 small and big fire arms, more than 200 fake fire arms licenses, fake seal and documents from them

 

 

Putting up a vigilant check on illegal trade of fire arms, Special Task Force (STF), Jabalpur, busted an inter-state gang involved in illegal trade of fire arms. Team has arrested three accused and seized more than 400 live cartridges, around 200 small and big fire arms, more than 200 fake fire arms licenses, fake seal and documents from them.


STF Jabalpur is optimistic to nab a large number of persons involved in illegal trade of fire arms while some of the
officers in Government departments and arms dealers are also under scanner.


The arrested have been identified as Devan Jacob alias D D Jacob, resident of Gopalbagh in Katni, Manish Edvin Singh, resident of NKJ in Katni, and Sheikh Sajid alias Sajid Nawab, a resident of Damoh.


Deputy Superintendent of Police, STF Jabalpur, Deepesh Agrawal disclosed this in a press conference on Monday.
DSP Agrawal added that under the direction of Additional Director General of Police, STF, Dr S W Naquvi and Superintendent of Police, STF, Arun Mishra, STF Jabalpur started a campaign against persons involved in illegal trade of fire arms. Acting on a tip-off, STF Jabalpur personnel started a search and succeeded in trapping two men named Donald Devan Jacob and Manish Edvin when they were traveling in a car in Jabalpur, on October 6. In the search of their car, STF team seized 30 cartridges of 70mm, 12-bore in three boxes, 20 cartridges of 65 mm, 12-bore in two boxes, 160 cartridges of 32-number in eight boxes, 20 cartridges of 315-bore in two boxes. Besides, team also found dozens of fake arms licenses in the names of different persons lived in Damoh, fake seal of Executive Magistrate, Damoh, District Collector, Damoh in the car.


STF Jabalpur had registered a case against the accused under sections 420, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC and sections 25, 27 of Arms Act. In the interrogation, the accused broke down and confessed of making fake licenses and trading fire arms and ammunitions. On their identification, team nabbed another man named Sheikh Sajid alias Sajid Nawab, a resident of Damoh, who recently sold out five pistols and cartridges and seized three pistols and 14 live cartridges fromhis house.

STF Jabalpur presented the accused before court and obtained their five days remand till October 12. In further investigations, accused disclosed that they had sold out more than 200 small and big fire arms and thousands of cartridges after purchasing it on the basis of fake arms licenses. Till now, STF Jabalpur has seized eight pistols, three 12-bore rifles and 430 cartridges from the accused. In further investigations, STF learnt that that DD Jacob was earlier working at a shop of fire arms where he got idea of making fake licenses and purchasing fire arms and ammunitions. Manish Singh Edvin is his partner in trade of fire arms while Sheikh Sajid was supplying fire arms to customers.


The accused were apprehended with active working of STF Jabalpur team led by in-charge Inspector Hariom Dixit, ASI Vishal Singh, Constables Nirmal Patel, Vinod Patel, Omprakash Agnihotri, Rajan Pandey, V K Verghese, Gajendra Bagri, Naresh Jatav, Prabhat Singh, Jitendra Singh, Lekhan Singh and Narayan Singh.
