Staff Reporter,

Ayurveda drugs samples get tested in pvt labs

It is surprising but true that in Madhya Pradesh there is no Government lab to test the Ayurveda drugs samples collected by the Ayurveda drugs inspectors from shops on suspicion to test. Many times, on the basis of complaints, the Ayurveda drugs inspectors collect samples of drugs from Ayurveda drugs store in different parts of the State. They are to get these samples tested from the private drug testing labs and according to sources no sample of Ayurveda drugs collected from Ayurveda drugs stores is said to be failed till the date. So no action against any Ayurveda drugs store has yet been taken by the AYUSH Department.

Senior AYUSH officer said Government, pleading anonymity said drugs testing lab is must to get Ayurveda drugs tested. In almost every state there are Government Ayurveda drugs testing labs, so there is quality control in this field. Even action against those medical stores sell substandard Ayurveda drugs were taken.

It is learnt that MPPSC has denied for written examinations and is said to have decided to conduct only the interviews for the posts. On the other hand, the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board is also not yet decided what it will what to do for the posts of class three.

According to information, the AYUSH Department had sent some posts of Ayurveda experts to Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) and posts of class three were sent to the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) but unfortunately both recruitment agencies has not yet taken interest in organising writing examinations or conduct interviews to the Ayurveda doctors and lab technicians to the Government drugs testing lab. The AYUSH Department has lab but it has no manpower to get the Ayurveda drugs tested. Ayurveda inspectors are less than the Allopathic drugs inspectors in the State so the samples of Ayurveda drugs are also collected few, usually when the AYUSH Department receives complaint about any Ayurveda drugs store.

What is interesting is that only the samples collected from the Ayurveda drugs stores rather the drugs manufactured at AYUSH Department’s Gwalior and Bhopal located Pandit Khushilal Sharma Ayurveda college lab are also get tested from the private labs. Many times, the department do not care to test for quality. Nobody knows when there will be recruitment of Ayurveda doctors and lab technicians to the Government drugs testing lab.

When contacted Dr P C Sharma, Deputy Director, AYUSH Department looking after the work of drugs testing lab, said there is no facility of testing Ayurveda drugs in Government labs. We have no manpower. We have sent posts of
Ayurveda experts to MPPSC and lab technicians and other posts to the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board but none of them have done anything, he said.
