Staff Reporter,

The old booths were not able to meet the purpose and changes were required in the existing system. Keeping this in mind the new prepaid auto booths were introduced with many new improvisations including multiple counters and well furnished porta cabin. The prepaid auto booths already existing at the station were obsolete which were replaced by these new prepaid auto booths. But the booth at Nadra Bus Stand is not functioning for a very long time now and at Habibganj the booth is left unmanned with nobody to attend the people coming to book autos

One foe that is common to daily commuters within the city and frequent travelers, who use auto from railway stations and bus stop is the overcharging done by auto drivers of the city. Auto driver charge the amount that they find fit and increase the rates substantially during night and wee hours. Keeping in mind the monopoly of auto drivers and to provide better transport services to residents of the city six prepaid auto booths were established by Bhopal city Link Limited under the supervision of Traffic Department. Prepaid auto booths wee established at Bhopal station, ISBT, Nadira and Habibganj. But the auto booths at Nadra bus stand and Habibganj Railway station have become mere showpieces.

It is to be noted that these booths were constructed to provide hassle free booking and ride to the commuters.

But the booth at Nadra Bus Stand is not functioning for a very long time now and at Habibganj the booth is left unmanned with nobody to attend the people coming to book autos. In absence of this facility commuters are forced to book private autos which charge as per their will.

Ankita Saxena a frequent commuter said, “The auto prepaid booth at Nadra bus stand is not functional and that creates a problem. If somebody wants to travel to new Bhopal city area the private autos charge anything between Rs 250 to Rs 300. If this service was provided for commuters they should have also made it functional.”

As per sources the condition of Nadra bus stand is worsening with time and commuters are forced to bear the foul stench rising from open drains, lack of proper drinking water facility, garbage lying in open, illegal parking, monopoly of private agents, unhygienic premises etc. Non functioning prepaid auto booth is another feather in the cap of deficient system at the bus stand. At Habibganj which is a busy railway station unmanned prepaid auto booth raises brows and puts a question mark on the whole idea of starting the prepaid auto booth and setting up of the booth operational centre.

PRO, BCLL, Sanjay Soni said, “The booth at Nadra Bus stand is not in working condition due to paucity of space and it will be started only after the facilities and arrangement will be up to the mark. Unmanned booth at Habibganj is a surprise as the booths at other places are properly functional.”

Director of BCLL, Kewal Mishra said, “I will send officials to look into the matter of these non functioning booths as soon as possible.”
