Contractual health employees stage demos

Hundreds of contractual malaria and Multipurpose Workers (MPW) in favour of their long-pending demands staged demonstration in front of Mantralaya on Tuesday. They were demonstrating under the banner of Health & Medical Education Employees Association. There were nurses also in large numbers demanding three and four yearly increments to those nurses having diploma and degrees. In this demonstration, health employees from state’s 25 districts also participated and shouted slogans against the Government. Contractual health employees demanded payment of their 9 months pending salary before the festival of Diwali.


Later, a delegation of employees association submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to Sharad Jain, State Minister for Health and Medical Education. Besides, they submitted memorandum to Health Minister and Chief Secretary also. They demanded the Government to implement Government order dated 11-9-1985 and giving benefit of yearly increments to the nurses of Medical Education Department.

Surendra Singh Kaurav, State President, Health & Medical Education Employees Association, said the Government sanctioned honorarium of contractual malaria workers and MPWs, on August 22 this year but they have not yet been paid it. They were in controlling dengue, malaria, chikungunya, TB, pulse polio and leprosy and other diseases for the last about 10 years, but they were discontinued for the last three months. Even, the Government has already taken decision of extending their service contract period for two more years but the Health Department has not yet issued orders in this regard.
