After successful rolling of Nagpur Metro at At-Grade section from South Airport to Khapri, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has set a target to achieve the desired goal for operation of Nagpur Metro on 38 kms railway track upto December 2019.

The entire team of Nagpur Metro is working hard to achieve the set-target under the leadership of Managing Director Dr. Brijesh Dixit, said Mahesh Kumar (Director) Project while talking to The Hitavada. We are trying to launch the commercial operation of Nagpur Metro on At-grade section of 5.6 kms by November 2017, he informed.

Recently, a formal trial run was launched at the hands of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road, Transport, Shipping Nitin Gadkari on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra. The permission from Railway Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Commissioner of Railway Safety is yet to be received for this section to start commercial operations. Their team will inspect the track and will issue the certificate. The Nagpur Metro has achieved this task within 27 months of inception of work.

The total length of North South Corridor from Automotive to MIHAN- Khapri Depot is 19.658 kms while length of East West Corridor from Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar is 18.557 kms. The Metro has divided all the portions in different four categories - Reach -1, Reach -II, Reach -III and Reach- IV to finish the work within stipulated time. The work of all the phases is going on simultaneously and smoothly.

Nagpur Metro has decided to complete the Reach-I section from Airport to Sitabuldi by November 2018 while Reach-II from Sitabuldi to Automotive Square will be completed by December 2019. Nagpur Metro has adopted solar power generation right from the project planning and design stage to meet its energy requirements to the tune of 65 percent that will make it as ‘Greenest Metro’. All roof-top of the stations, depot boundary, walls, depot shed roof tops and vacant ground space will be mounted with solar PV panels.

In Phase-I, the 14 MW Solar power is proposed to be generated that will rise to 36 MW in future. The Nagpur Metro is implementing superior project Management through 5D- BIM (Building Information Modelling)- IT based platform to ensure tight control over costs, time, quality, and safety of the project.
