11 people injured after truck hits vehicle

YET another case of reckless driving left 11 people, including 9 women, seriously injured, late on Wednesday late near Virmani petrol pump under Cantonment police station. A speeding truck rammed into a Traveller vehicle. The vehicle, carrying guests of a marriage procession, turned upside down after being hit by the truck. Out of 10 people injured in the incident, condition of one of the injured is reported critical. Injured women are from Nagpur and were in Jabalpur for a marriage ceremony of Gulzar family, residents of Gorakhpur.


According to information, 10 people sustained serious injuries when a Traveller vehicle (MP 20 T 8945) they were travelling back to Gorakhpur Gurudwara after attending a pre-marriage ceremony, the vehicle was hit by a speeding truck (MP 20 HB 5388) from the front near Virmani petrol pump. About the mishap it is informed that 9 women, residents of Nagpur, had come to Jabalpur to attend a marriage ceremony. The women after attending a pre-marriage ceremony at Sports Club Tilhari were returning in their Traveller vehicle.


The Traveller vehicle after being hit by the truck turned upside down causing panic. Passers-by informed Cantonment police station.


On being informed, cops along with Ambulance 108 and Dial 100 reached the spot. Under rescue operation, the injured trapped inside were taken out and rushed to a private hospital. The injured have been identified as Manpreet Kaur, Amarjeet Kaur, Kamaljeet Kaur, Rasmeet Kaur Saluja, Narendra Kaur Saluja, Narendra Kaur Gujral, Anshu Bahel, Gurpreet Kaur Bahel, Manjeet Kaur, Ranjeet Singh Bahel and Guruvachan Kaur.


One of the injured named Sukhveer Singh Bahel (35), a resident of Tekanaka Devi Nagar Panchatawali, Nagpur, informed police that he along with his family members reached Jabalpur to attend a marriage . On the basis of statement of the injured, Cantonment police have registered a case under sections 279, 337 of the IPC against absconding driver who managed to flee from the spot.

A massive search has been started to apprehend absconding driver. Out of the 11 injured, condition of one is reported critical. Further investigations in the case are under way.
