AUSTRALIAN skipper Steven Smith squarely blamed the ODI series loss against India to inconsistency.
“We were inconsistent throughout the series. The top four batters did not play the way we had expected of them. The wickets on most occasions fell in a lump,” summed up Smith, while talking to the reporters at the end of the series which they lost 1-4.

Smith was also not satisfied with his own performance. “As a leader it was very disappointing. I could lead from the front. I got some starts but could not get going,” the captain confessed.

On the seven-wicket loss in Nagpur, Smith said, “We simply did not have enough runs on the board. In our effort to take wickets, we used many bowlers in the initial stage itself but the Indians played well. Rohit (Sharma) batted superbly and took the game away from us.”

When asked whether some members of this team were replaceable, Smith said, “Definitely. Back home some players are performing well. If somebody bats well get many runs or some guys take wickets, they will surely get a look in.”
The skipper, however, did not like to see too much farther. “Ashes are far away. At present we are focused on the upcoming three-match Twenty20 series against India. Once it is over, we will think of other things,” Smith said when asked about the planning for Ashes.
