NMC promises facilities to boost trade

Mayor Nanda Jichkar on Sunday said that the civic body would give priority to property assessment and generate funds for development of the city. She said that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) would initiate concrete steps to bring all the untapped commercial and residential properties under the tax net so that funds for building infrastructure could be generated. Jichkar said this in a ‘Diwali Milan’ organised by the Nagpur Chamber of Commerce Limited (NCCL) at Ravi Nagar.


Jichkar further said that the civic body would provide all possible support and infrastructure to boost city’s trade. “We are working hard to make the city ‘smart’ where in the citizens would get world class amenities. However while doing so, we will have to consolidate our revenue sources,” she said adding that property tax is one of the major contributors in the civic body’s kitty.


In his introductory remarks, CA Kailash Jogani, President of NCCL, highlighted that encroachments at Gandhibagh, Sitabuldi and other market places is a cause of major concern for traders. “Under newly launched GST, many traders are facing hardship. We urged the policy makers to simply the proceedure,” he said.


On the occasion, the NCCL hounored three personalities for their contributions in their respective fields. The chamber honoured Purushottam Malu, Director of Malu Electronics, Malu Paper Mill Limited in category of industry. Malu is one of the renowned industrialists of the region who is also associated with many social organisations.


NCCL also honoured Vasantraj Modh Saraf of Gold Palace Dharampeth in the trade category. Saraf has carved a niche for himself an his firm among the citizens. he is known for doing business with honesty and sincerity.


The third personality honoured was Dr Pramod Mundra of Platina Heart Hospital Sitabuldi from service sector.
Anil Sharma, Joint Secretary, conducted the proceedings of the function while Vijay Jaiswal, Secretary, proposed a vote of thanks. Umesh Patel, Convenor and other office-bearers of the chamber were also present.
