TOM Alter is no more. Indian cinema has lost a very colourful and very virtuous personality. The world of cinematic art will miss one of its most illustrious personalities whose appeal cut across all barriers.

Tom Alter was everybody’s darling. His good looks, his good values, his artistic abilities, his fine narration, his presence -n and off the stage -- everything made Tom Alter a persona in an altogether different league. He made India his home because he loved the place, he loved the people, and he loved the way the Indians worked.

“I am very comfortable here”, he had said to a journalist in a casual conversation over coffee. Very soon, he mingled with the scene so well that people stopped taking Tom Alter as somebody outside their frame. Of course, he was all the time near the top of the heap with his sterling performances. His three movies are cited for his great showing -- ‘Kranti’, ‘Shatranj Ke Khilari’, and ‘Junoon’. But what created an aura of superlative excellence around him was his character of a British officer in ‘Junoon’. True to that title, Tom Alter lived with a lot of junoon - pride!.

INDIA’S emphatic 4-1 series win over strong Australian team has put the men in blue at the top of world ranking in the one-day format. Team India is already number one in test match segment. Thus the present team is going from strength to strength with its skipper leading from the front and by example.

That the team management and national selectors can afford to give rest to ace bowlers like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja and still win series after series against every other country shows the enormous talent that is coming up.

In the last few months Team India seems to have discovered a genuine all-rounder in Hardik Pandya. That he has been named the man of the series for the Australian series is a pointer to his all-round skills. Indian team is benefitting from the advent of spinners Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Kedar Jadhav and maturing of speedsters. Team India is basking in abundance of talent. While most of the series wins recently have been achieved on home soil, Team India has to prove itself abroad as well.
