Transgenders to get houses under PM Awas Yojana: CM

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that a grant of Rs 1.5 lakh would be given by the State Government in addition to the grant being provided to transgender by the Union Government for house construction under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Chouhan was addressing the gathering in programme held to dedicate toilet constructed for transgenders in Azad Market near Ganpati Chowk, Mangalwara, on Monday. He mentioned that transgenders’ panchayat will be organised shortly. Transgenders are respected citizens of India.

The State Government gives respect to them and the government will use their services in positive works, he sai. CM Chouhan stated that meaningful role of transgenders will be ensured in the society. Transgenders’ services will be used to communicate the message of cleanliness from door to door. Chouhan mentioned that co-operation of transgenders should be taken also to eradicate malnutrition and to spread the message of Beti Bachao Abhiyan. He further said that the administration will be instructed to take stern action against the elements who defame transgender community.

He also praised the initiative of municipal corporation for showing sensitivity towards the transgenders. Displaying society’s and Government’s respectful approach towards transgender community, Chouhan honoured representative of transgender community of Mangalwara Ustad Suraiyya Nayar and Pallavi Nayar of Budhwara presenting them bouquets and also gave them Swachhgraahi appointment cards.


Mayor Alok Sharma said that the State Government is sensitive towards all the sections of the society. With the same sentiments, the municipal corporation has made efforts to provide quality life to the transgenders. A public toilet has been constructed for them. At the initiative of the corporation, now transgenders have also been included in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Now, pucca houses will be provided to them under the scheme.


Public utility centre constructed by the municipal corporation is first toilet of the State and the country. Besides all the basic amenities, separate entrance gates have been provided for women, men, differently-abled persons and third gender in single premises. Vande Matram and Vaisnavjan Bhajan was presented by Suhasini Joshi and her team in the programme. A vote of thanks was proposed by the Corporator Sanjeev Gupta.


Member of Parliament Alok Sanjar, MLA Surendra Nath Singh, Chairman Bhopal Development Authority Om Yadav, Chairman of Bhopal Municipal Corporation Dr Surjeet Singh Chouhan, Members of Council Krishna Mohan Soni, Dinesh Yadav besides other corporators, officers of the corporation, members of transgender community and citizens in large number were present in the programme.
