40 shops sealed in Pandri for flouting layout norms

There could not have been anything worse for 40 shopkeepers of Pandri cloth market whose shops were sealed for flouting layout norms right at the start of festive shopping season. Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) had even considered calling out a Bandh, but it backed down on the decision following a meeting with authorities late evening.

Pandri Shopkeepers and Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials came to face-to-face on Tuesday as the latter sealed the business premises of former on the grounds that the shops were not conforming to the map layouts.

There was also an effort to make truce between businessmen and officials, but all in vain. Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries had also reportedly called on an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening. Authorities targeted those shops which had their doors opening right on the main road, which was something in violation of the layout, according to authorities. As a result, these shops were causing traffic jam.There were some tense moments as businessmen opposed the actions of authorities, but by the end of day, 40 shops were locked down.

According to the reliable sources, RMC authorities had asked shopkeepers to give affidavit that they would close the unauthorised doors opening on main road by October 30. The shopkeepers will take the final decision on the offer of RMC on Wednesday. The same was also confirmed by CCCI Chairman Amar Dhawna.
