Staff Reporter,

Bitter experiences in last two years made Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) to go for reinstating of the old timing pattern of board examination and academic session in government schools and aided schools across the state. It needs to be mentioned, a change in timings of academic calendar and board examinations was affected in the State two years back to match the education system of private schools. As per the change, Chhattisgarh School Education Department started academic session in Government schools and aided schools from April 1 and held Class X and XII board examinations almost one month prior to the older pattern.

However, a lot of negative impacts, including shortening of session, children faced a lots of difficulties in attending classes in summer and schools witnessing meager presence of students, came to fore due to the change. Keeping all these in mind, the examination of committee of the CGBSE has reportedly recommended the Board to resume the older system of academic session i.e June 16 should be the date to resume new academic session every year and holding board examinations from March 5 instead of February. Similarly, another factor responsible for the restoration of older pattern is shortage of classrooms in many schools across the state.

It has been seen that the CGBSE has been holding board examination between February second week and March first-second week. It was also recommended by the committee to hold class IX and XI examination along with the board examinations while the examinations for remaining classes will be completed before March 5 starting from February 24. Similarly, the committee has recommended change in board examination timings. Instead of 9 am to 12 noon, the examination will be conducted from 8 am provided the recommendations get a go ahead.
