Truck crushes 16 stray cattle

In yet another gruesome incident about 16 stray cattle died when they were crushed by a truck being driven recklessly near village Rawabhata located about 20 kilometers away from here on the Bilaspur-Raipur National Highway early on Tuesday morning. The trucker after committing the crime escaped from the scene and is absconding. Chakrabhata Police under whose jurisdiction the area comes have taken possession of the bodies of the stray cattle and send them for autopsy with the veterinary department. Police have registered an offence and started investigations.


According to information the incident took place early this morning when the stray cattle were resting on the National Highway. Police sources informed that although a few villagers claimed the cattle but could not provide any evidences. Police is also investigating why the cattle owners left them at mercy on the Bilaspur-Raipur National Highway where there is constant movement of heavy vehicles. The villagers informed that the trucker was in tipsy condition and failed to control the vehicle while negotiating with other vehicles on the road. When the cattle tried to move away from the road, he lost control from the steering and ran over about 16 cattle which died on the spot.


The incident also triggered violence in the village as large number of people staged road blockade demanding immediate arrest of the truck driver and compensation for the cattle owners. Instantly after information a posse of Police and administrative authorities rushed to the spot and following a prolonged effort managed to convince the irate mob and restore traffic on the National Highway. Later Police took possession of the bodies of the stray cattle and send them for autopsy with the veterinary department. Police have registered an offence and started investigations. So far no arrest has been made.
