Business Bureau,

In order to boost adoption and acceptance of GST and digital payments, Maharashtra Government will constitute district level committee comprising senior Government officials and representatives of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The committee will regulate and monitor acceptance of GST and digital payments among trading community and will also render assistance to resolve GST related issues at district level itself.

The decision was arrived at a meeting held on Thursday at Mantralaya Mumbai between Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Sumit Mallick and CAIT delegation led by its President B C Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal. Additional Chief Secretary, Special Commissioner GST and other senior officials of Maharashtra also attended the meeting.

The meeting was held in the wake of directions of Prime Minister given to chief secretaries of all states few days back to promote adoption and access of GST and digital payments at district level and handholding of traders.

Mallick while praising the positive approach of CAIT assured that Maharashtra Government is committed to provide ease of doing business for trading community. Genuine problems being faced by traders on GST have already been forwarded to GST Council for resolution and hope that GST Council will take appropriate steps.

CAIT also suggested that digital kiosks may be opened in market places where traders who do not have computers can make tax compliance against nominal payment. Offices of different trade associations in a district can be made as help centres equipped with computer and trained staff to help the traders in case of need. A trainer development programme for skill development of youths may be planned who will be trained completely and can act as ‘Tax Return Preparers’ as prescribed under GST law and also could be helpful in manning help centres.
Free Wi-Fi may be provided in rural areas, GP for some hours.
