Staff Reporter,

Special Task Force (STF), Bhopal, has recovered two antique idols and one costly painting from two smugglers. The sleuths of STF arrested accused from Jhansi-Datia border. It is assumed that accused have stolen the seized things from an unidentified place and were trying to sell them to international smugglers’ gang.

STF said that there was certain input about the movement of smugglers and acting on the information, one SUV bearing number UP-93 AE-3371 was stopped at Chirula Naka at Jhansi-Datia border on Wednesday. Two smugglers, Praveen and Rajendra, both residents of Jhansi, were arrested and two antique idols and one old gold colour painting was recovered from their possession. The first statue is of Lord Parshvanath and it is made of metal. This statue, which is black in colour and in ‘padmasan’ posture, weighs around 5.291 kg and its height is 20.5 cm. The second idol is of grey colour and has four hands. In one hand, it is carrying yellow colour mace and in another hand it is carrying lotus flower which is yellow in colour. This idol weighs 4.756 kg and its height is 35 cm.
Along with this, STF also recovered costly old painting from the possession of accused Praveen.

This painting depicts the image of a horse rider and its length is of 38.2 cm and is 31.1 cm broad. Horse is of blue colour and rider is donning colourful clothes. At one side of paint 01.05.31 is written. STF says that by seeing the seized items, which are priceless, it looks that they were stolen from old place and accused were looking for an opportunity to sell them to international smugglers’ gang.

STF had filed case against both accused and investigation has been started in the case. Efforts are being made to know from the source through which accused have got the valuable antique items. STF fathoms that it may get vital information from accused about idol smuggler gangs active in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and other states. Accused were produced before the court.
