Pre-Karwa Chauth celebration held in city with glee

On the eve of festival ‘Karwa Chauth’, married women of the city organised ‘Pre-Karwa Chauth’ celebration with glee and enthusiasm on Saturday.

City will be witnessing traditional fervour and all rituals of the pious festival on Sunday. Preparations are full in swing to mark the auspicious festival ‘Karwa Chauth’ with fervour. Women were so enlivened that various pre-karwa chauth celebrations were witnessed in city a day before the festival. They were dressed beautifully based on various themes like women showed culture of different state in pre-karwa chauth fest at Sunder Van Nursery. Competitions and games were also organised in the programmes which were enjoyed by the women.

Karwa Chauth, an old Hindu tradition among married women, where they will observe fast for their husbands’ well being and long lives. Wives often pray and observe a day of socializing, with other women, by preparing special meals, and dressing up in their finest regalia.

On the day, parents will send gifts to their married daughters and their children. Storyteller would be an older woman or a priest, if one is present. In the evening, Karva Chauth puja song will be sung collectively the singers perform the feris (passing their thalis around in the circle). Husbands will present gifts to their wives as they will fast the whole day for their long and prosperous life.

There is great excitement among married women towards the celebration. Married women have left no stone unturned in the preparations and celebrations. They were preparing for Karva Chauth few days in advance; cosmetics (shringar), traditional adornments or jewellery, and puja items, such as the Karva lamps, matthi, henna and decorated puja thali (plate), etc were the most demanded stuffs in the market for the occasion.

 Markets take on a festive look as shopkeepers put their Karva Chauth related products on display. City markets including New market, 10 No. Market, City Market, City malls and shops are seen flooded with karwas (pot) and other beautiful religious stuffs. Various shops have been crowded with women demanding the best in the products needed on the day to mark the occasion. City parlours attracting customers with 50 per cent discount coupons and pre-booking options. Even many parlours have appointed temporary staff to cope up with this festive rush. Almost of the parlours have been done with the booking. On the day, women will get ready in the parlours to look best and most beautiful.
