Six sandalwood thieves arrested

Habibganj police arrested six sandalwood thieves from posh Char Imli locality in TT Nagar and recovered 9 kg of sandalwood from their possession on Friday. The weapons, including three saw and three axes, used by them to chop down sandalwood trees were also seized by the police.
The accused have chopped down sandalwood trees and had stolen the logs in the night on September 14 and September 20 last month.

SHO of Habibganj, Ravindra Yadav said that the nabbed accused were identified as Sattar Khan (30), son of Noor Khan, a resident of Anand Nagar, Haleem (25), son of Saleem, a native of Bhamankheda village in Sehore district, Yaqub Khan (35), son of Munshi Khan of Haripura village in Bilkharia, Shareef Khan (25), son of Noor Khan of Bilkharia, Babbu Khan (22), son of Rasheed Khan of Sukhi Sewania and Anish Khan (26), son of Sehore.

The arrested accused had confessed that the sandalwood logs were stolen by them D-11 and B-32 in 74 bungalow area on September 14 and Sept 20 respectively. The modus operandi of gang is that in late night hours, the accused used to identify the spots where the Sandalwoods trees were located and chop down the trunk of trees with the help of saw and axe and then used to sell the Sandalwood logs at Rs 1900 per kilogram with the help of agent. The accused of the gang used motorbike for their movement and to reach at the incident spot. A case under Section 401 of the IPC has been registered by police against all the arrested accused.
