India hockey goalkeeper promoted to the rank of Junior Commissioned Officer

INDIAN goalkeeper Akash Chikte, who is an employee of Bombay Engineering Group and Centre Pune was rewarded for his excellent performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup Hockey Tournament.
India won the Asia Cup hockey title after a gap of 10 years at Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, congratulated Chikte for his title winning performance. As a reward, Chikte was promoted to the rank of Junior Commissioned Officer at a function held in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Chikte said it was a proud moment for him after being felicitated by the Chief of Army Staff.
“It’s a proud moment for me to be rewarded for my hard work at the hands of Chief of Army Staff.
“I am proud to be a part Indian Army and part of Hockey India,” said Chikte.
The lanky Yavatmal-born goalkeeper was also declared as the best goalkeeper of the Asia Cup.
