YOUNG minds can get corrupted easily. That’s the reason why elders in the family in olden days used to keep an eagle’s eye on the curricular as well as extra-curricular activities of their children. However, with the disintegration of the joint family system, this ‘watch’ has gone away. With both the parents working, there is no one to keep the children under check. Many of the children, who have no self-control, thus fall in the company of bad boys and develop a criminal tendency towards the society. Television channels, who beam gory crime stories 24x7, leave a lasting impression on the minds of the children, often prompting them to enact the crime scene in real life. The latest example of this was found in Delhi, where a Class 11 student was killed by one of his friends for trying to woo his girlfriend. And, the accused hatched the murder plot, taking a cue from a popular TV crime series ‘Crime Patrol. The incident highlights the need for regulating such shows. Their prime time slots can be changed. Parents must also try to keep their children away from TV sets by giving interesting tasks.
