Unruly crowd vanadalise public property during Army recruitment rally

UNCONTROLLED crowd of youngsters, who were in city to participate in Army Recruitment Rally, ran amok in the city and vandalised public properties on Tuesday. Girl students faced trouble to pass through Cantonment area for college throughout the day, while several people were attacked and fruit vendors were robbed too. Timely action of police controlled the miscreants and stopped their nuisance in the area. The recruitment rally is being organised at Indira Gandhi Ground in Sadar where more than 18,000 candidates from Uttar Pradesh had gathered to participate.

A large number of candidates created trouble in maintaining law and order arrangements and damaged public properties in Jabalpur Cantonment, Sadar, Empire Talkies area and Jabalpur Railway Station. They pelted stones at ATM centres, damaged road dividers and stoppers, tore down several hoardings in Cantonment area and created panic at Jabalpur Railway Station.

Acting promptly on the information, separate police teams were deployed to control the crowd and act against troublemakers. A police team led by senior police officers reached the spot and used mild cane charge on agitated crowd in Indira Market and Railway Station areas.

Understanding gravity of situation, additional police force from different police stations was deployed from Indira Gandhi Ground to Jabalpur Railway Station, while RPF and GRP teams marched at railway station to bring the situation under control. A large number of passengers faced trouble due to huge gathering of boys at railway station.

It was a tough time for police to control the agitated crowd who looted vegetable vendors, damaged ATM centres and tampered with automatic vending machines at Jabalpur Railway Station.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Cantt Police Station Prafull Shrivastava informed that police teams used light cane charge to disperse the crowd and control the situation. He informed that separate teams were deployed between Indira Gandhi Ground, Sadar to Jabalpur Railway Station to avoid any kind of untoward incident.
