Shopkeepers fined, plastic bags seized during drive

Senior officials prepared challan of nearly 25 shopkeepers and seized more than 1.50 quintals of plastic bags and realised spot fine of Rs 20,000 from erring shopkeepers


To take strict action against shopkeepers who provide commodities in plastic carry bags to customers, the Health Department of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) , on Thursday carried out drive in market places of the city and seized banned plastic carry bags from shopkeepers, vedors. Senior officials of the department also prepared challan of vendors and also realised spot fine.


Assistant Heath Officer, K K Dubey informed that the team of health department repeated drive in areas including Naudra Bridge, Civic Centre, Shashtri Bridge, Chhoti Line crossing, Madan Mahal, Ranital and other adjoining areas and seized plastic carry bags from shopkeepers. They also realised spot fine from vendors, shopkeepers for using banned carry bags.


Dubey informed that senior officials prepared challan of nearly 25 shopkeepers who got stored banned plastic carry bags and were providing commodities to customers in carry bags. Officials also seized more than 1.50 quintals of plastic bags and realised spot fine of Rs 20,000 from erring shopkeepers.


The Assistant Heath Officer further informed that the State Government has banned manufacturing, sale and use of plastic carry bags in entire State. Accordingly, it has asked the civic body to ensure the same in the city also. He said the JMC is requesting shopkeepers and also taking strict action against them for using plastic carry bags. Despite, vendors are violating ban.


He said the health department would continue drive and would seize plastic carry bags from shopkeepers and vendors. He said the State Government has directed civic bodies to ensure proper restriction on use of plastic bags and also directed for strict action against businessmen who manufacture and sale plastic carry bags ad shopkeepers who use the carry bags, hence, the health department is carrying out drive and taking strict action against erring shopkeepers.


Health Officer, G S Chandel, Assistant Health Officer, R P Gupta, Chief Health Inspectors and other employees of the health department conducted the drive.
