JMC leaving no stone unturned to ensure ban on plastic bags

The Health Department of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is making untiring efforts to ensure complete ban on use of plastic carry bags in the city. For the same, senior officials and employees of the Department have constantly been executing drive and taking action against erring shopkeepers who have been selling and using banned plastic bags. They too have been taking action against the shopkeepers who are not keeping dustbins at shops and creating uncleaness.

Accordingly, the health department on Friday conducted drive in many areas of the city and took action against shopkeepers and vendors. They seized plastic bags and also realised heavy fine by issuing challans to the shopkeepers. Senior officials informed that they conducted drive in areas including Civic Centre, Bloom Square, Chhoti Line crossing, Madan Mahal square, P&T factor gate no. 4, Ranital, Gol Bazar and adjoining areas. The senior officials prepared challan of over two dozen shopkeepers for using banned plastic carry bags and also realised spot fine of Rs 5000 from erring shopkeepers. The officials also seized 50 kilogram of plastic bags.

Officials further informed that the State Government has asked civic body to ensure complete ban over manufacturing, transportation, sale and use of banned plastic carry bags within municipal limits. Hence, the civic body is requesting shopkeepers and masses to avoid using plastic carry bags.They said the department would continue drive and would seize plastic carry bags from shopkeepers and vendors and take strict action against businessmen who manufacture and sale plastic carry bags and shopkeepers who use the carry bags.
