People’s participation needed to make Chhattisgarh malnutrition free: CM

Asserting that the malnutrition is the biggest obstacle in the progress of Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh termed it to be a much bigger challenge than fighting Left-Wing Extremism. He added that State Government will be victorious against Maoists, but people’s co-operation is required in the fight against malnutrition. Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh on Friday stressed upon the need for people’s co-operation in making Chhattisgarh ‘malnutrition-free’ State in the ensuing three years.

Addressing the gathering at the launch of ‘Chief Minister Nutrition Mission’ programme on Friday, the Chief Minister appreciated that with the active participation of the common citizens there is a drastic fall in malnutrition rate among the masses in the entire State. The percentage of malnutrition among masses was around 70 per cent at the time of formation of new state of Chhattisgarh. After the launch of ‘Weight Festival’ in the year 2012, the malnutrition rate has come down to 30.13 per cent in the year 2016 from 40.05 per cent.

Chief Minister called upon the people to take a pledge to make Chhattisgarh ‘malnutrition-free’ in the next three years. In Kerala the malnutrition rate is 12 percent as on date. There is a need to match Kerala in this regard. He also launched Nutrilink Online Poshan Salaha Kendra and Nutrilink Mobile App. Nutrilink Online Poshan Salaha Kendra has been established with the assistance of World Bank under the ISNIP Project.

The programme was presided over by Women and Child Development Minister Ramsheela Sahu. Present on the occasion were Parliamentary Secretary Roopkumari Chowdhary, Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand, Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Singh and Secretary Women and Child Development Department Dr Geeta and senior officers were also present.

The Chief Minister also launched CD on Suposhan Sankalp song. Dr Raman Singh said that entire country will attain the target of Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission (Open Defecation -Free) by October 2019 while Chhattisgarh will attain it one year earlier. Similarly, people can achieve the target of ‘malnutrition free’ state also. There is a need to protect children from malnutrition and only mothers know better. Mothers are always worried about nutritious diet of their progeny.Chief Minister stressed on the importance of Anganwadis and schools in eradicating malnutrition. Chhattisgarh can attain the goal with the determination of women to make their children healthy. Community-based projects can help attain a healthy society.
