Staff Reporter,

Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) Madhya Pradesh met the Chief Minister and handed over a memorandum demanding to determine standard rate of sugarcane on the basis of sugar recovery from sugarcane sold by peasants.

The State Publicity Chief Raghvendra Patel said that Union Government had declared the minimum standard price of Rs 255 for sugarcane for year 2017-2018. When the percentage of sugar recovery increased, government has determined the hike worth Rs 26.6 per quintal per percent. He said that Kisan Sangh has stated that a meeting of administration, mill owners, public representatives and Kisan Sangh was conducted on November 5, 2017 and November 8, 2017 wherein, mill owners by citing reason of 8 percent sugar recovery from sugarcane, were demanding to determine the per quintal rate of Rs 270.

On the other hand representatives of Kisan Sangh and others argued that when sugar recovery is higher and rates of sugar too are higher in market, determined standard rate must be Rs 350. Accepting this argument of peasants, the Collector declared that rates would be determined on the basis of sugar recovery from sugarcane. R S Patel said that under the supervision of administration, sugarcane was sent to Pawarkheda laboratory for sugar recovery test.

Its test report has been received. The peasants who had gone with team of peasants said that recovery in the sugarcane is about 11 percent. When mill owners are ready to pay Rs 270 on eight percent sugar recovery and now the sugar recovery is 11 percent, then standard rate of sugarcane must be Rs 350 per quintal. Demanding to make the current sugarcane recovery public, the memorandum was handed over to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Demand to determine the standard rate of sugarcane worth RS 350 was also raised strongly. The State Organising Secretary Bharat Patel, Publicity head RS Patel, Jabalpur District President Prahlad Patel, State Secretary Keshaw Tomar, Hetram Patel and other office bearers from Katni were also present on the occasion.
