Bird watching programme held to mark Dr Salim Ali’s birth anniversary

Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH), Bhopal organised a Bird Watching programme on the birthday of Dr Salim Ali, ‘Bird Man of India’ on Sunday. This programme was organised at Bishankhedi and Bilkhedi, located at the bank of Upper Lake. Around 18 students from 12 schools of Bhopal participated in this Bird Watching programme. Dr Sangeeta Rajgir from Bhopal Birds was the resource person of this programme.

During the programme, Dr Sangeeta Rajgir explained about habitat, food habit and role of birds in the ecosystem.
During this Bird Watching programme, one could see locally resident birds like Rose Ringed Parakeet, Weaver Bird, Rufous Tailed Lark, Red Vented Bulbul, Grey Hornbill, Black Drongo, Indian Robin, White Browed Fantail Flycatcher, Laughing Dove, Indian Roller, White Breasted Kingfisher, Pied Buschat, Myna, Cattle Egret, Common Buschat, Brown Headed Gull, Black Winged Stilt, Purple Moorhen, River Tern, Comb Duck, Spot Billed Duck, Pond Heron, Bay Back Shrike, Grey Heron, Greater Coucal, etc. Participants were also detailed about Sarus Crane during the visit at Sarus Biodiversity Education Centre, Bishankhedi, Bhopal.

Scientist-B of the museum and Coordinator of the programme Manik Lal Gupta made an appeal to the participants that they should disseminate the information about the importance of birds among general public.
