Staff Reporter,

Triggering an alarm in city, in a gangland style operation four goons armed to teeth targeted a family of four in Bahadura area in midnight operation, that left a youth and his mother injured. Armed with countrymade pistols, the goons fired six rounds in air after descending at the house of a vegetable vendor on Tuesday. The entire incident seemed akin to one seen in Hindi films, the youth laced with firearms and knives storming into the house of Nagardhane family on Umrer Road under the jurisdiction of Sakkardara police station.

The goons were at the house of Nagardhane for just about 10 minutes and the way they operated did not fit into the regular crime pattern leaving cops puzzling for motive. But as soon as news reached Control Room, police posse took no time in reaching the spot, given the sensitive matter since firearms were reported to have been used by the criminals.

Police, based on preliminary information from the family, stated that four youths attacked them. The time was around 12.15 am and the house of Nagardhane is situated on the outskirts of the city. Vaishnavi Nagardhane, teenage daughter of Sanjay Nagardhane heard some noise outside and opened the door to inquire. This was her folly as the waiting goons, they were hiding in the bushes, pounced upon her and then dragged her inside.

To subdue the family, one of the goon opened fire, the shot was fired in air to ensure Sanjay does no mischief. Sanjay runs a vegetable shop in Mahal area while his elder son, Bhavesh (22) drives a Taxi and police suspect the attack is linked to personal rivalry. Meanwhile, no sooner did the goons gained entry, they resorted to doling out threats to ensure there is no resistance, given that Sanjay and his son do not retaliate.

One of the goons sensing some danger stabbed Bhavesh who was injured in the stomach. But the Nagardhane family was not to be cowed and shouted for help. This helped as goons panicked, though they used pistols liberally, three of them however had misfired, the police later said.

As soon as the goons fled the spot, the family members informed police control room about the incident. Staff of Sakkardara Police Station and Crime Branch arrived at the spot. Neighbours also gathered at the house after hearing the firing sounds. Sakkardara police have registered the case under Sections 307, 459, 460 and 143 of IPC read with Sub-sections 3 and 25 of Arms Act. Injured Bhavesh and his mother are admitted at Government Medical College and Hospital. A senior police officer said that Bhavesh is in touring business and owns a Tavera car while his father is a vegetable vendor in Mahal.
