People still make risky attempts at level crossings

Due to lack of awareness among public and endless hurry people risk their live by trans-passing through barrier at manned railway level crossings at various parts of city.
In recent incidents two youths lost their lives on November 1 at Urkura railway level crossing, while they were trying to transpass the barrier with scooterate, they were hit by approaching Duranto Express. Both the youths were spot dead.

As per information received from Railway Protection Force (RPF) office the youths who lost their lives were drunk and were warned by the railway staff on duty at level crossing as Duranto Express was approaching. When they were crossing track within seconds train hit them and the scooterate was entangled with engine safety net and dragged to about 600 meters with one rider while another person was spot dead by powerful impact of train.

The train driver applied emergency breaks and with the help of RPF staff body of the youth and Scooterate was separated from engine. The youths were identified as Vishal Yadav (25) and Roshan Dewangan (26), both residents of Urkura area.

Rajiv Ranjan, Railway Protection Force, Inspector told ‘The Hitavada’ that, he rushed the spot after receiving the information with his team and removed bodies. The train was delayed by incident for 40 minutes on the day. He further added that to avoid such mishaps its duty of public to take lesson out of such incidents and never risk their valuable life. Ranjan added that Indian Railways have made provisions under RPF Act to collect fine from transpasser and/or imprisonment for three months.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of South East Central Railway, Kaushal Kishore said time to time awareness campaign drive is observed by the division to create awareness among public. However, he will plan more such campaign so that people avoid risking their life in future.

On the other hand as per directives of Union Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal all manned Railway level crossing will be made traffic free by construction of either Rail Over Bridge or Rail Under Bridge near the level crossings soon, that will bring an end to the possibilities of mishaps.
