“The present scenario of farming in Madhya Pradesh is progressive. Farmers are joining scientific way of doing Agriculture. When this University was founded in un-divided Madhya Pradesh the production if compared with present has difference of three times. Madhya Pradesh being a recipient of Krishi Karmana Award from Government of India for over four times successively has responsibility to maintain sustainability in all spheres of farming”, said Dr P K Bisen, Vice Chancellor (Elect) of the Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University while talking to The Hitavada. He is presently working as Director Extension Services, JNAU. He would assume the office of Vice Chancellor of JNAU on November 23, 2017.

Replying to the query about priorities and necessary works he identified being part of the JNAU, Dr P K Bisen said it becomes easy to understand and identification of long and short term challenges before the institution. Being part of University since student life I believed that the responsibility of being Agriculture Scientist is only to work for betterment of agriculture and to give respect and response to end user of every advance research, the farmers. On priorities I would like to create a conductive atmosphere for the farmers who comes to University travelling from different districts.

University is an institution that works on guidelines and vision of ICAR, Government of India and Government of Madhya Pradesh. Working in these frames while keeping interest of farmers and different stakeholders is the prime responsibility. For proper dissemination of necessary information and technology the prevailing system of extension through Krishi Vigyan Kendras and IT tools. Having contact base on SMS network of over 12 lakh farmers the system is effectively working in State. Now to enhance participation of farmers in process is being reviewed at all levels. The prevailing participatory system has been evolved in many years protecting our traditions in maintaining quality and standards”, said Dr Bisen.

“Being oldest Agriculture University of the State, JNAU is the parent institution for all streams be it research, academics or extension in agriculture, horticulture, agricultural engineering or veterinary. Our prime responsibility and duty is to give right direction with futuristic vision and needs. To fulfill this responsibility our need is availability of human resources. In present scenario we are having good opportunities to upgrade our systems like modern machinery in laboratories, advance system of instrumentation but for operation of such units the shortage of skilled hands is a prime obstacle”, said Dr. Bisen.

Dr Bisen replying to a query about five works he would like to initiate in University, says “We have to strive hard on maintaining the high standard of research and academics to the reputation of JNAU, for extension a review on betterment of relation with farmers and other stake holders would be initiated. Another foremost need is availability of human resources of technical and non-technical sides to handle coming technological advances. Facelift of the university and to attain financial strengthening through planning for optimization of resources utilizing and minimization of input cost.
