“This is not so”, says Rahul on India improving its ranking

UPA’s ‘ease of doing corruption’ has been replaced by NDA’s ease of doing business, retorts Jaitley

CONGRESS Vice-President Rahul Gandhi used a Mirza Ghalib couplet and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley some deft word play, each hitting out at the other over the World Bank report on India improving its ranking in the ‘ease of doing business’ index. Gandhi put out a tweet in Urdu, taking off from a famous Ghalib verse to say the Union Finance Minister was deluding

“Sabko maloom hai ‘ease of doing business’ ki haqeeqat, lekin khud ko khush rakhne ke liye ‘Dr Jaitley’ ye khayal achha hai (everybody knows the reality of ease of doing business, but this thought, Dr Jaitley, is good to keep yourself happy),” he said. Jaitley retorted that the UPA’s “ease of doing corruption” has been replaced by NDA’s “ease of doing business”, apparently hitting back at Gandhi’s jibe.

“The difference between the UPA and NDA - ‘The ease of doing corruption has been replaced by the ease of doing business’,” he said in his tweet. His colleague, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, also attacked Gandhi and asked, “How much does Rahul Gandhi understand the ease of doing business? Does he know that it is not an event sponsored by the Government or the BJP but a study undertaken by the World Bank?” He said the economy was serious business and asked Gandhi to not make it “shallow and hollow”.

Meanwhile, speaking at a rally in Jambusar, in Bharuch district, Rahul, who commenced his three-day tour of south
Gujarat, said, “The Finance Minister has ears for outsiders. I wish he visits small businessman to see what he is undergoing. You will find the country saying in unison that this is not so. Demonetisation and GST has knocked the wind out of small businesses”, he said.
