Rajyotsav celebration starts off amidst tight security

Amidst an all round tight security arrangements, the 5-day long 17th Rajyotsav celebration was off to a grand start with Vice President Venkaiah Naidu inaugurating the stalls of various government departments and the exhilarating performances by local and national artists here on Wednesday.



The exhibitions depict various projects of public sector undertakings, State and Central Government departments’ achievements. Several State Cabinet Ministers were present on the occasion. Vice president Venkaiah Naidu watched the exhibitions of Departments such as Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Urban Administration and Development Department, Stand up India, Start-up India, Shilp gram, and Agriculture Department.

Vice President had brief dialogue with the women who drive electric auto-rickshaw in Dantewada under the Aajivika Express Scheme. Meanwhile, Swacch Bharat Mission officers gave demonstration of online system to check the status of mission.

Vice President also observed the Mission clean city scheme models, artefacts, and stalls of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, Pisciculture, water resources, Indira Gandhi Agriculture University, Chhattisgarh Kamdhenu University, Dairy Federation, Seeds Development Corporation.

As the sun began setting in the horizon and winter breeze blow down the vast open spaces of the Naya Raipur, streams of crowd appeared heading towards the main stages. Buses full of people from different routes began parking in the sprawling parking lots marked all around the Rajyotsav ground. When Chief Guest of the event Vice President Venkaiah Naidu was yet to arrive, people seemed glued to the cultural events. The throng was mostly comprised of rural people.

Visitors had to go through different layers of security arrangements such as the scanners, manual frisking and metal detectors deployed at every entry points to the main venue.

The pavilions and stalls showcasing achievements and future plans of Government Departments were yet to be completely set up even as the food zone began selling out luscious dishes. Now when there was no other attraction in the giant Rajyotsav venue, they were the cultural events which drew the people to Rajyotsav.

A troop of artists from Gujarat served taste of their state in form of Garba and Dandiya. They captivated the audiences. Prior to these, group of kids showcased significance of love towards the nation through their group dance on tunes of patriotic songs.

The swirling Garba dancers were followed by the elegant and expressive Kathak. The Kathak dancers captivated the heart of audiences with their decorous postures and moves.
The heart-warming Kathak gave way to the heart-thumping beats of Dhols when a group of folk artists from the far-fetched region of Surguja took to the stage. Draped in their traditional colourful attire, Surguja Dhols gave a glimpse of the rich tribal culture of the Chhattisgarh.

The Cultural events recessed with the announcement at the main stage, where Vice President Venkaiah Naidu was about to arrive to formally inaugurate the grand Rajyotsav.
Rajyotsav also brought an opportunity for the residents of nearby villagers to do a brisk business. They could be seen pacifying the hunger and thirst of visitors with Samosas, Kachori and other fast food items available for reasonable prices at their small eateries and tea stalls set up outside the main Rajyotsav compound.
