Staff Reporter,

According to sources in Higher Education Department, a total of 12 private colleges in Katni district penned a letter not to conduct Students’ Union elections in their campuses. The authorities concerned informed Rani Durgavati University (RDU) about joint boycott of Students’ Union elections in Katni district and also dispatched a detailed report to the State Government.

However, soon after receiving the report regarding Katni district, the Registrar, Rani Durgavati University (RDU) has issued a joint letter to all the eight districts of Jabalpur division including Jabalpur, Katni, Dindori, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Balaghat and Chindwara and clarified that the process of Students’ Union elections has to be conducted in all non-granted private colleges. As per provisions, election is compulsory for every private college. If the colleges refuse to conduct Students’ Union elections in their campus, the University will cancel their recognition. Apart from this, colleges will also have to face stern action at the Government-level.

The aforesaid letter was issued after administration of 12 colleges of Katni district refused to conduct elections in their campus. Meanwhile, as schedule on Thursday, authorities invited claims and objections on the voters’ lists, which were issued by the colleges on Wednesday.
Both (ABVP) and NSUI claimed to obtain victory in more than half private colleges of Jabalpur division. However, the election will be conducted in 46 private colleges on November 27.
