Winter Session from Dec 1 to 22nd

The notification for the 14th Session (Winter Session) of Fourth Chhattisgarh Assembly was issued on Saturday. As per the notification issued by the Chhattisgarh Assembly Secretariat, the Winter Session will commence from December 1 and continue till December 22. There will be total 4 sittings during the Session.

According to the notification issued by Principal Secretary Devendra Verma, during the Session apart from government works, financial works and non-government works will also be executed. During the session, the state government is likely to introduce at least five significant Bills. Also the proposals for the 3rd Supplementary Budget will be tabled during the Winter Session. The Chhattisgarh Cabinet which will be meeting again on November 28, is likely to discuss on the proposal for the budget as well as on Amendment Bills apart from other significant issues.

Considering the present political situation in the state and keeping in view the forthcoming Assembly elections due next year, the Session is expected to be tumultuous. The Opposition Congress which has already started gearing itself for the forthcoming Assembly elections, has started preparing strategies so that it can effectively corner the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Prominent issues which are likely to be raked up by the Opposition Congress are sex CD case and subsequent arrest of Vinod Verma, ban by state government on cultivation of summer (Rabi) paddy, Agustha Helicopter issue, commitment of suicide by a sweeper of Kawardha Nagar Panchayat in-front of Chief Minister’s official residence in Kawardha, suicide committed by farmers due to drought conditions apart from other issues like atrocities against Tribals, paddy Bonus (five years), failure of intelligence network in combat against Left Wing Extremism resulting in incidents like Burkapal in Sukma district, issues pertaining to supply of sufficient fertilizers and seeds for Khariff season, lack of teachers in government schools, depleting law and order situation, etc are some of the prominent issues which the opposition Congress will try to rake up during the Session. Meanwhile, the ruling BJP has also started gearing up for effectively combating the opposition onslaught.
